About Durham university

Durham University is a top public research university in Durham, North East England. This university was founded by an Act of Parliament in 1832 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1837. This institute was one of the first universities to commence tuition in England for more than 600 years, after Oxford and Cambridge. Also, it is one of the institutions to be described as the third-oldest university in England. As a collegiate university, Durham University has its main functions which is divided between the academic departments of the university and its 16 colleges. Generally, the academic departments perform research and provide teaching to students, while the 16 colleges are responsible for their domestic arrangements and welfare. Some of the notable alumni of Durham University are Sir Peter Ustinov, George Alagiah, Andrew Strauss, and Jonathan Edwards. Durham University owns a 563 acres estate which includes part of a UNESCO world heritage site.
