LNMU (Lalit Narayan Mithila Institution) is an Indian public university. The institution was founded in 1972 and operated out of the Mohanpur House in Sara Mohanpur hamlet on the Darbhanga-Sakri road. The school was relocated to Raj Darbhanga’s campus in 1975. Darbhanga town is located in Mithila, a historic cultural area of North India located between the lower Himalayas and the Ganges river. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in subjects such as social science, humanities, commerce, life science, and medicine. Teaching and research are carried out by almost 400 faculties. For its students and instructors, the institute offers a 230-acre residential campus with contemporary facilities and support services. The institution is fortunate to have three significant student organisations: the ABVP, AISF, and Mithila Student Union. The university now has a total of sixty-seven colleges.

In 1998, L.N Mithila University in Darbhanga, Bihar, created the Directorate of Distance Education. Its primary goal is to provide university courses via distant learning.
