“Hindi Diwas is celebrated on 14th September every year as the day in which the Constituent Assembly in 1949 decided to declare Hindi in the Devanagari script as the official language of the Union of India.”

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced Saturday that the MBBS course in the state shall now be conducted in Hindi from the current academic session.

The decision was taken on the occasion of 'Hindi Diwas'. Sai said his government was happy to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to impart medical education in Hindi which he had expressed during a rally in Uttar Pradesh in 2022.

The government has made a big decision on Hindi Diwas. MBBS course will now also be taught in Hindi. In this session 2024-25, books in Hindi will be introduced from the first year. The books and other study materials will be arranged by the health department, he informed local reporters.

The decision was part of efforts to "change our education policy at every level from the old Macaulay imperialist education policy" " He also boasted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 had been implemented fully in Chhattisgarh.

The change will especially be a boon to the students coming from rural backgrounds, as most of them hail from Hindi medium schools, where a lot of troubles they face in the medical courses, despite talent, due to its rendition in the language of English. Studying in Hindi will strengthen their basics, develop a deep understanding of the subject, and enable them to turn into good doctors," Sai asserted.

Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on September 14, which commemorates the day, the decision was taken by the Constituent Assembly back in 1949 to choose Hindi, in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union of India.
