On Monday, the Indian Supreme Court (SC) started deliberating on multiple appeals concerning the NEET UG 2024 dispute, to obtain an order to retake the exam. There will be 38 petitions heard by a bench that consists of Justices J B Pardiwala, Manoj Misra, and Chief Justice DY Chandrachud The National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers NEET-UG, and the Central government informed the top court that eliminating the test would "seriously jeopardize '' lakhs of deserving applicants without evidence of a widespread breach of confidentiality. The NTA restated the position of the Center, stating that the cancellation of the exam in its entirety would be very "counterproductive" and seriously "harmful to larger public interest," particularly about the candidates' job prospects. The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers several national entrance exams, notably the NEET UG, whose integrity is under scrutiny due to claims of malpractice and paper leaks. In separate affidavits, the center and the NTA indicated that they were unwilling to reschedule the exam. They have stated in their reply that the CBI has assumed control of the cases that have been filed in several states. It went on to say that the allegation of "mass malpractice" during the exam is "completely unfounded, misleading, and lacks any basis." Additionally, the government said that a high-level expert team has been assembled to recommend practical steps for the NTA to take to ensure fair, easy, and transparent examination procedures.
