UGC recently decided to ban online courses offered by the Periyar Univerity, Selam in Tamil Nadu. UGC imposed a ban for two academic years 2024-25 and 2025-26, new sessions of this year were started from July - August 2024 and further. It is a piece of general information for all the stakeholders and the General public that the Complaint Redressal Committee (CRC) in its 578th meeting which was held on 13th March 2024 has decided that HEI should ban the Periyar University online courses for 2 academic sessions 2024-25 and 2025-26, as per the provisions stipulated under 7(3) UGC (University Grants commission). Early Periyar University was recognized by UGC to offer education in Online mode for the 2007 to 2015 session and the 2019-20 session. However, now UGC has not given further recognition to continue the online mode of education at this University. According to UGC, the varsity has violated some rules because of which they will not be approved to offer Online education for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 sessions.
Note: Moreover, All the students are informed that they are not considering and take admission for online education at Periyar University. Students don't enroll for this July -August 2024 academic session online at Periyar University.
CRC stands for The Complaint Redressal Committee has recommended UGC not consider the application of Periyar University for the years 2024-25 to 2025-26. Also, the application submitted by the varsity for the year 2023-24 to offer online programs will not be processed as well.
University Grants Commission concludes that the general public to not be admitted to any courses in the Periyar University (Selam in Tamil Nadu)through the online mode as it may jeopardize their career since it is no longer a UGC-recognized university for its Online programs.
