The Rajiv Gandhi University is a Central University that was founded in 1984. Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, is home to the university. The oldest university in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh is Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), originally Arunachal University. When UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited the state in 2005, the university was renamed Rajiv Gandhi University.
